Career Day: Wednesday, 2 NovemberGrade 9 Students are participating in the Take Our Kids to Work Program on Wednesday, 2 November. Students in Grades 10–12 will have an opportunity to take in presentations on careers in engineering, medicine, dentistry, business, education, and many more. Over thirty St. Paul's alumni and several other professionals will be presenting at our annual Career Day. There are five career presentation slots in the morning and the afternoon will consist of regular classes in periods 4, 5 and 6. On behalf of St. Paul's, I would like to give thanks to Mrs Kolton for organizing Take Our Kids to Work, to Mr Hurton for arranging speakers for Career Day, to Mr Watson for his assistance with the online registration process for Career Day presentations, and to our many presenters for generously giving their time to interact with our students while sharing their vocations. First Term Progress Reports: Friday, 4 NovemberProgress Reports are scheduled to be mailed on Friday, 4 November. Parents should receive their mailing no later than the following Wednesday. If a mailing is not received as expected, please contact Catherine Smither to request a report (204-831-2316). Progress Reports are interim reports which typically include a few smaller assessments such as quizzes and short written assignments and one larger assessment such as a test or longer written piece. Progress Reports are a "snapshot" of your sons' progress so far this term. Final reports for the term will be produced after exams in January. Please consult individual course outlines for details on how term marks are calculated for each course. In addition, parents are encouraged to access the Powerschool Parent Portal for more detail regarding assignment results. Mission Week 1: El Salvador Scholarship FundThank-you to all families for their contributions to our first mission drive. With your help, we raised $4,500.00 in support of the El Salvador Scholarship fund! This donation will be very much appreciated by the students who receive scholarships this year. On our mission trips to El Salvador, many of our students and staff have seen first-hand the tremendous impact the scholarships have had in supporting students and their families in El Salvador. Relaxed Dress Code: Friday, 4 NovemberStudents are encouraged to participate in the relaxed dress code for $2.00. Proceeds are in support of the Crusader Basketball Program. Traffic Advisory: Bower & Grant![]() St. Paul's was contacted by the School Resource Officer from the Winnipeg Police Services who works directly with Shaftesbury High School. They have received several complaints from students, parents, and teachers indicating that many drivers are not following the Right-Turn Only sign at the intersection of Bower and Grant. To this point, Winnipeg Police have issued several warnings to drivers making illegal left-hand turns at that intersection. Please be advised, that effective Monday, 31 October, Winnipeg Police will be issuing traffic tickets ($250.00) to drivers not in compliance with the posted sign. As a reminder, drivers must make a right-hand turn at the intersection of Bower and Grant during the hours of 7:00–9:00am and 3:00–5:30pm. Junior Debate Tournament ResultsSt. Paul's High School hosted a Junior Debate Tournament on the evening of Thursday, 27 October. St. Paul's had twelve students participating, many of whom participated in their first debates. We hosted students from twelve Winnipeg schools including private Catholic schools, other private schools, and a few public schools. The tournament was made possible by the generosity of about thirty student-volunteers from St. Paul's who served as speakers, timers, and judges. Many thanks to the tournament organizer, Mrs Anna McGill, and the St. Paul's Debate coaches, Ms. Joan Trimble, Mr Tyler Kelsch, and Mr Paulo Borges for their work in helping students prepare for the tournament. Congratulations, Eric Fawkes '19!![]() Last week, Eric competed in the 2016 U16 Western Canada Challenge Cup as a member of Team Manitoba. The tournament took place in Calgary and Team Manitoba represented our Province well bringing home the bronze medal after defeating Saskatchewan last Sunday. Congratulations to Eric on being selected to the final roster for Team Manitoba and to Eric and his teammates for a terrific showing the Western Canada Challenge Cup! Driver Safety Bulletin from Manitoba Public InsuranceFrom January through October 2016, 85 people have lost their lives in fatal collisions in Manitoba. The number of fatalities caused by motor-vehicle accidents has nearly doubled compared with last year. In addition, the age range with the most significant increase in victims of collisions, serious injuries and fatalities, has consistently been persons between the ages of 15–35. Worst of all – we know these deaths could have been prevented. Contributing factors in this year’s fatal collisions include speeding, impaired and distracted driving, and not using a seat belt. Student Council Spirit WeekOur Student Council has organized a variety of activities to promote school spirit during the week of October 25–31. One aspect of the Spirit Week includes relaxed dress code days with various themes as indicated below. Students will also have opportunities to participate in a variety of fun activities during lunch each day during Spirit Week. Tuesday: "Twin" Dress Code Theme - Partner up with a fellow student and wear a major item of clothing (shirt or pants) that matches your partner’s. Wednesday: Men For Others Day Dress Code Theme - Receive a Relaxed Dress Code if you bring in at least one new, unopened item for donation to Siloam Mission. Items suitable for donation include:

Mission Week #1: El Salvador Scholarship FundFrom Monday, 17 October through Friday, 21 October, we will be engaged in our first of three Mission Drives this school year. St. Paul's families are asked to contribute funds to support the El Salvador Scholarship Fund. This week we are asking that students, staff, teachers, and parents bring in donations to this worthy cause in order to help those in need. Donations will primarily be collected in Mentor Groups. Crusader RaffleAll students received a raffle ticket package on Thursday, 6 October. Please ensure your son brings his raffle tickets home.
