Crusader Raffle Launch: Thursday, 6 October
Students will attend an assembly on the afternoon of Thursday, 6 October to launch our annual Crusader Raffle. All students will receive a raffle ticket package and are expected to participate in this fundraising initiative which directly supports the extracurricular program and bursary fund at St. Paul's High School. Please ensure your son brings his raffle tickets home next week and support him in fulfilling his role in this process. Further information from the Advancement Office is forthcoming. On a practical note, we will follow Schedule 2 on this day to facilitate the assembly from 2:30–3:15pm.
No School: Friday, 7 October
There are no classes on this day to provide time for a faculty inservice day. As part of our commitment to providing a high quality academic program and excellence in teaching and learning at St. Paul's, our upcoming inservice will focus on how we communicate learning goals to students, and in turn, how learning goals inform our classroom assessment practices to foster student-learning and growth. In addition, our faculty will continue development of a school-wide homework policy that will be shared with students and parents as part of a consultation process later this school year. The goals of the homework policy and guidelines document are to:

You can use the Parent Guild List of Events & Activities to guide your choices. If you would rather speak with a friendly voice, and find out where help is the most needed, Volunteer Liaison Cheryl Juras can be reached at 204-290-9972. *Please note that sign-ups must be done annually, as information is not carried over from the previous year.
We also invite you to attend:

Support Your Son’s Education at St Paul’s High School
As we approach the end of September and move beyond the start of school, the following resource may be helpful as parents look for ways to support their sons' education at St. Paul's. Current parents received this resource when their sons were in Grade 9. Once again this year, the school will use this document as part of the information we share with parents at our mid-year parent meeting on Monday, 27 February.

From the Parent Guild
The SPHS Parent Guild extends a warm welcome to both returning and new members. Anybody with a son attending St. Paul’s High School is a part of our team. We want to help each and every parent/guardian get involved so that he/she can start to “Make Tomorrow’s Memories Today.”
The Guild has three main objectives:
Giving a little bit of your time goes a long way towards building the strong community that is vital for our sons’ tenure at St. Paul’s. With your help, we can make a difference for them, while simultaneously enhancing our own experience. All roles are explained in the Parent Guild’s 2016-17 Information Package. Additionally, even though we received a great response to our online sign-up in the spring, we realize that some parents may have been unable to commit at that time. If you now have a better idea of your availability, volunteers are still needed. Please complete our survey today.
The Guild’s monthly gatherings are open to all members. They offer a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents, to become aware of Guild events, and to add your voice to our decision-making process. We meet at 7pm in the Aulneau Room every second Wednesday of the month (school activities permitting). We always do our best to limit our time to one hour. Please note that if you are unable to attend, the Parent Guild posts its minutes on the St. Paul’s Online Community. Simply follow the links to Parent Groups > Parent Guild of click here.
We welcome and thank the following new Chairs/Coordinators for our school year: Fashion Show Chair Elsebeth Hansen-Kriening, Volunteer Administrator/Grade 12 Pizza Lunch Coordinator Margaret Haugen, Hospitality Supplies Coordinator Fiona O’Hara, New Parent Orientation Coordinator Darlene & Al MacPhersen, Parent Guild AGM & Wind-up Co-Coordinator Carolyn Eva Meadows (joining Susan Deleau), Parent Social Evening Coordinator Sandra Romani, Custodian Appreciation Co-Coordinators Kendra Fontaine & Yolande Franzmann, and Grad Committee Chair Krista Lamboo-Lewis.
We are very much looking forward to talking and working with new parents. It is always exciting to see fresh faces and to be able to harness our community’s skills, creativity, and generosity. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Lori Nieman Penner, Guild President. Here’s to a great year of memory making!
Grade 9 Parent Evening
Thank-you to all parents who were in attendance at the Grade 9 Parent evening on Wednesday, 7 September. We hope that you felt welcomed to the St. Paul's school community and that you enjoyed the opportunity to meet teachers and other parents. In order to continue to improve this event and parents' experiences at the school, please consider providing your feedback by responding to the following survey.
Next week - Thursday, 22 September: Annual Walk
On Thursday, 22 September, students from St. Paul’s, St. Mary’s Academy and Balmoral Hall School will participate in the 39th Annual Walk to raise funds for CancercareManitoba Foundation. The St. Paul’s Student Council has been hard at work over the summer preparing for a fun filled day. By now, your son should have brought home a letter that gives a brief overview of the day and includes a pledge form for those who wish to raise funds. All students are required to submit to an $8.00 fee to their MGM teachers by Monday, 19 September. The flat fee will cover the cost of refreshments along the walk route (candy, ice cream, etc.) as well as entertainment and activities throughout the day. The flat fee can be paid by cash or a cheque made payable to ‘St. Paul’s High School’. Food will be available to be purchased on site from food trucks and/or the cafeteria for an additional fee. The Student Council will also be selling commemorative long sleeved t-shirts at The Walk for $20. Those students who have raised $75 or more in pledges for the Terry Fox Foundation will receive a complimentary shirt.
Yours in Spirit,
2016–2017 St. Paul’s Student Council
